Program Overview:

1. Introduction: Why Bother?

In an era where sensationalism trumps truth, the first session asks: Why do ethics matter? Explore the gap between modern values and timeless principles, and uncover the relevance of ethical living today.

2. Ethics According to the Philosophers

Examine the three major ethical frameworks:

  • Deontological Ethics: Doing what’s right simply because it is right.
  • Utilitarian Ethics: Actions judged by their outcomes, illustrated through the heroic acts of Chiune Sugihara.
  • Virtue Ethics: Developing character traits that lead to human flourishing and well-being.

Discover how these perspectives inform and contrast with Jewish teachings.

3. Mussar Means Ethics … and More

Dive into Mussar’s unique approach, which goes beyond ethics to address the inner work of personal transformation. Explore how Mussar practices guide us in aligning our actions with our highest values.

4. The Jewish Approach: Tzelem Elokim

Explore the profound concept of being created in the image of God (Tzelem Elokim). Discover how this foundational teaching shapes Jewish ethics and challenges us to view ourselves and others through the lens of divine potential.

5. Conscience and Compass: Redeeming Shame

Shame often stifles growth, but in this session, you’ll learn how to redeem it as a tool for moral and spiritual awakening. Develop a conscience rooted in self-awareness and compassion.

6. Developing Awareness of the Divine Image Within and its Implications: Becoming Holy

Reflect on what it means to be created in the image of God and how this awareness transforms our relationships, actions, and aspirations.
