Path of the Soul
Path of the Soul is now retired from our regular course repertoire so that it can be more widely distributed to synagogues and other local organizations wishing to deliver advanced level Mussar content.
Path of the Soul (POTS) is an advanced-level Mussar program designed for people who have completed at least two years of Mussar study with their community. POTS helps participants recognize and follow their personal spiritual curriculum, providing tools, practices, and insights to guide their soul's journey toward wholeness and spiritual maturity. It is a curriculum for wholeness. Each of us has his or her own curriculum, though not everyone is aware that his or her life-course is a curriculum, nor engages with it consciously. In this program, participants engage in several introductory teachings and then study topics including our duty in the world, vigilance, alacrity, cleanliness, abstinence, purity, piety, humility, fear of sin, and holiness.
An engaged participant in Path of the Soul will come away with a clear understanding of Mussar teachings that describe and light the path of the soul, new insight into their own personal spiritual curriculum, tools and practices to help guide his or her soul’s journey, and a new depth of spiritual maturity.
Participants must have their own text of Messilat Yesharim by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto. Program materials include va'ad meeting outlines for group facilitation, accounting of the soul (cheshbon ha’nefesh) worksheets for a cheshbon ha’nefesh diary, chevruta partner study materials, and optional process report templates for deeper guidance from facilitator to participant.
We offer this program on a perpetual license with no per-participant fee. Purchase once and use as often as you wish. By purchasing the program materials, you agree not to re-sell or share to any individual or group outside of your congregation/organization, all materials are copyrighted by The Mussar Institute.
This program is available for purchase by TMI-trained facilitators offering this program through their synagogue, JCC, or their personal LLC. Ownership of the perpetual license can be the organization or the individual. Trained facilitators must agree with their organization about who will own the license before purchasing.
Organizations who make a purchase without already having a TMI-trained facilitator can hire one by requesting the list of available facilitators from TMI and must contract with a facilitator for hire before receiving the program materials. Such organizations must arrange all logistics and payments directly with the facilitator for hire. To request the list, please email info@mussarinstitute.org.
