Rabbi Edelstein is a post-denominational teacher, spiritual leader, counselor, and writer who has worked in synagogues, long-term care facilities, and Jewish organizations. She said, "The practice of highlighting different middot enabled me to see my own areas of strength in addition to characteristics that required constant vigilance. This focus created an opportunity for me to be conscious of traits that needed only fine-tuning and those that demanded much more.
Course Overview:
This new course is designed to help mature Mussar practitioners apply a select number of highly relevant middot to the changes in their later lives. Using Alan Morinis’s book, Everyday Holiness, as the primary source text, supplemented by additional readings from Jewish, scientific, and journalistic sources, participants will be led to apply four middot as they surface in the challenges faced by aging and the transitions of life. The goal for the course is to enable people to accept the transition of aging with grace and to offer practices for feeling valued, despite the limitations that aging often presents.
The four middot explored include: savlanut / patience, hakarat hatov / gratitude, rachamim / compassion, and menuchat hanefesh / equanimity.
