Celebrating 20 Years of The Mussar Institute

As part of our celebration of The Mussar Institute’s 20th anniversary, we invite you to take part in a special creative project during our one-day gathering, Ruach Chaim - Living with Spirit: Lifting Up Our Lives in Trying Times.

By registering for the gathering, you’ll have the unique opportunity to contribute to a beautiful digital booklet that captures the collective wisdom, creativity, and spirit of our community.

We’re asking participants to share personal reflections, artwork, short quotes, or other digital expressions that illustrate how Mussar has helped them live with spirit—especially during challenging times.

What Can You Submit?

We welcome and encourage your original creations—expressions that are meaningful to you and showcase the transformative role Mussar has played in your life. Submissions can take many forms, as long as they can be sent digitally.

Here are some ideas to spark your creativity:

  • Photography: A photo you’ve taken that reflects how Mussar inspires your spirit or uplifts you.
  • Artwork: A picture of a drawing, painting, sculpture, or craft you’ve created that embodies your Mussar journey.
  • Written Reflections:
    • A short essay or story (a few paragraphs) sharing how a Mussar teaching, practice, or middah has helped you live with spirit.
    • A photo of a handwritten note, letter, or journal entry.
  • Quotes and Wisdom: A favorite Mussar teaching or quote paired with a brief explanation of how it has guided or inspired you.
  • Experiential Descriptions: A description of an experience in which Mussar helped you navigate a challenge or embrace life with spirit.
  • Videos: A short video (2-3 minutes) of yourself sharing how Mussar has impacted you, telling a story, or showing something meaningful to your practice.

Whatever you submit, it should be your original work or personal creation. Your unique voice and perspective will help make this project a rich and inspiring collection.

What We’re Creating Together

This exclusive digital booklet will be:

  • Shared with all gathering participants as a meaningful takeaway from the event.
  • Featured on The Mussar Institute’s website as an enduring source of inspiration for the broader public.
  • A time capsule of collective wisdom, celebrating the 20-year journey of The Mussar Institute and the light we’ve shared together.
