Week 4: Focusing on Patience (Savlanut)
C - Contemplate: “The patient are exactly like those who are carrying a heavy package. Even though it weighs upon them, they continue to go on their way, and don’t take a break from carrying it.” (Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe)
O - Observe: What burden are you uniquely willing and able to bear?
U - Use: “Ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.” (Jewish proverb) OR: “According to the toil is the reward.” (Pirkei Avot)
N - Notice which activities and situations extend your endurance—and, conversely, which test your patience. Recognize the strengths that make light work for you of what feels onerous to another.
T - Try: Think of a task you’ve been putting off. Identify what, in particular, is burdensome about it and how you might lean into your strengths to ease the burden. Then take some, small step toward accomplishing the task each day this week.
